My name is David Somoza and I am a student at the University of Florida. I’m 22 years old and I consider myself to be a person that is good at negotiating. Since I was just a little kid, I was already negotiating with people to settle down a price for the drawings I made. My current aspirations are to get to work after graduation because I want to get my MBA. After getting my MBA I plan to continue working on my family business and start working on my startup. Since the business of my family is a pharmaceutical company, I want to expand to a new line of distribution. I want to have a startup that focuses on selling medical supplies to businesses in the healthcare industry. My business concept and my future aspirations are very different. The reason why I want every single person in America to have an internet connection at home is because I am a true believer of education. I come from a family that is full of lawyers and medical doctors. I have seen how a profession can change your life. I want to bolster education in Americans because I want people to overcome themselves and be someone in life. That is why I want to develop a business concept that will allow families to have an internet connection at home at a very good price. I want to have a startup that offers good and affordable internet to family households. I see this business playing a huge role in my life. For starters, establishing a company that focuses on internet services can be very complicated and expensive. I will have to dedicate most of my time developing a plan to try to grab the attention of venture capitalists and angel investors. Once the business has the budget to start, I will have to make a plan for a marketing campaign to get to those people that cannot afford internet from the current companies in the market. They will be my target audience. This company will play a big role for me because this company will allow Americans with low income to have internet access. My company will be bolstering education on families.
What are you offering to customers:
I am offering my clients a cheap and reliable way to have access to the internet. I will be offering a solution to stop those $60 bills from their current internet providers. I will be also offering something that current cable companies do not offer. Good customer service.
Who are you offering it to:
I will target people that have low income and college students. I think that a family household who can barely afford an internet connection at home will change from their current providers to me. Also, college students are always looking for ways to save money. They will prefer to stick with me than to continue to pay outrageous bills for internet access.
Why do they care:
My customers will care because all they want is to enjoy having an internet connection at home and at the same time saving money. If I can offer them a way for them to pay less and to save more they will definitely care about my concept. Also, people value a lot customers service. Which is something current cable companies don’t offer. They will care even more if I offer a service they like.
What are your core competencies:
Currently, we have a lot of providers that offer internet. My startup will be competing with giants like AT&T and Verizon. However, I think that if my startup is marketed in a good way and if my company grabs the attention of its target audience I think that we will manage. What will set us apart from anyone else is our price. The big internet service providers in the market cannot change their prices because they are competing with each other and because they have a lot of costs to cover. If my company sets a price of $30 a month for a 15mbs internet, I will be charging 50% less than my current competition. Besides having a great price for internet and speed, I will also be providing great customer service. As of right now, cable companies are the most hated companies in the country. One of the main reasons is because they provide really poor customer service. If my company can provide good prices and great customer service I will have an advantage over my competition.
Conclusion:
I think that if I can combine every single one of the elements I talked about in this assignment I can get good results. However, I think that we are weak in the first part of my business concept which is funding. Establishing a startup that focuses on internet services can be very hard. It requires a lot of work and funding. I think that my concept is particularly weak in the very first part. Getting investors to invest in a startup like this will take more than just a mere business plan. I will need to hire people that can give assurances to investors that everything will work as planned. I also will need more experience. Besides the funding part. I think that the rest of my elements are a perfect fit. The combination of my target audience plus a low internet service cost will have results. I think that my business idea is getting more form the more I talk about it. I hope that in the following assignments we get an opportunity to work on finding solutions to our weak spots.
