3A - Your Entrepreneurship Story
I come from a family that has been in the pharmaceutical industry for the past 20 years. We own some drug distributors. That hat has been one of our sources of income. One day, when I was 17 years old, my father told me that he was planning on starting a startup company. He wanted to start a company that specializes in cardiovascular treatment. Since my father is a cardiologist, the medical part was going to be the easy part for the company. The complicated part was actually the management part. Since at that time I had little to no experience at managing a business, the start was very difficult. At first, we had to deal with the legal stuff. We had to hire a lawyer to help us establish our company. Once the constitution of the company was created, I searched for places to rent to get the business up and running. Because this project was self funded(my dad’s funds) we were kind of short on budget. Despite being short on budget, we still had to look for a big and good looking location. After finding a place that we could rent, we started buying the necessary medical equipment to operate the business. We then went ahead and start looking for people to hire. Since I had little to no experience at that time, I got help from my dad when the company was recruiting. We hired cashiers, nurses, managers and accountants. The basic roles to help us get the business up and running. The company opened doors in January 2016. The business started very slow. Since our startup company was a health provider, the beginning was difficult since people are looking for trustworthy companies when it comes to their health. However, as time passed, we started gaining a very good reputation. Today, the company has grown a lot. The company now rents a much bigger location, has more cardiologists and also has more personal. Getting this business up and running (with some help ) is one of my biggest achievements until today.
The following is the logo of the company:
I decided to enroll in this class since entrepreneurship is something I’ve been doing since I was a teenager. Learning more entrepreneurship skills is something that I’m looking forward to since I have plans for new startups in the future. In addition, the people and the networking that this class offers might help me in the future. I hope that I can improve as an entrepreneur in this class. More importantly, I want to apply in my life what I’m going to learn by the end of the course.

ReplyDeleteHey David,
ReplyDeleteReading about your family's cardiovascular startup company was very interesting and impressive since you were only 17 years old. The fact that you took such initiative in finding places to rent for the location and helping your dad out so much so he did not have to do it alone. The background you have in entrepreneurship is already substantial and the idea for your family's company definitely addresses some unmet needs that people and more specifically cardiovascular patients have. You should be very proud of your achievements with the company because you were a huge part of that it seems and i'm sure your dad could not have done it all without your help because combining the medical field with the business field can be very complicated and extensive at times. I wish I was more involved with my dads startup like you were with yours because it would have given me a better background with the business and entrepreneurship fields. I also could have maybe contributed some of my own ideas to help but i still learned a lot. Good luck with the business!
