Part 1
The United States has become a place in which having an internet connection is almost unbearable. The average american household is earning around $59,000 a year. This figure with a few more family members and some other bills to pay is not enough sometimes. Especially if someone has kids in school or has students loans to pay. Most american households are not willing to pay for an internet connection because they rather spend it on food for their children. College students also prefer to spend it in other necessities like books and supplies. This opportunity exists because cable companies are willing to make the maximum amount of profit they can. They can charge what they want for internet access. The problem of having no bandwidth at all is that in our society we use the internet for educational purposes all the time. When we have households or college students without internet access we are interrupting the education that these people need to receive to do something in life. We live in an era now that if someone is studying in school or in college, an internet connection is imperative since everything is done through the internet.
Part 2
A good way to solve this opportunity is to create an agency that pays the internet bills of people that are currently studying and that have low income. By creating this agency we will be contributing to education and we will be also helping households that have a real need. This agency will be funded by the government since this problem only happens to children that go to public schools and to college students that come from a low income family. Since some schools already have programs in which they pay the internet bills for their low income students I think that his service will work. The difference now will be that now this service will be official and now children parents and college students with low income will be aware that there is an agency that can cover for them.
David,
ReplyDeleteI find your idea interesting, like when the government subsidies to people with low income. I don't know much about government help, but I know that there are regulations to it. Some families use this kind of help to have a large amount of children and get free money from the government, therefore they have an extensive investigation on how they use the money. That would be my only concern in this idea, otherwise, I think it could be done.
Hey David,
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting post as I definitely agree with you as far as internet prices being too high and would like to discover a solution to that problem as soon as possible. However, I was actually unaware of there being a program in place that pays the cable bills of low income students. I will definitely look into that further myself and see the eligibility requirements. Furthermore, I do wonder if the government will be willing and able to take this program on universally, as we are in quite a financial hole as a nation already as is.
